IT ALL STARTS
Our passion for the sea began as children. We were born in Terracina, a beautiful seaside town about 100 km from Rome.
Johnny has always been a rebel, which explains why, as a child, he spent more time unloading crates of fish than at school.
He spent his teenage years fishing, throwing baskets with 150 or 200 hooks each and free-diving in search of seafood. In December, dressed in a T-shirt in the middle of winter, I would jump into the water in front of Torre Paola. We didn’t even have money for a wetsuit. But we were hungry.

IN AN EXCLUSIVE LOCATION
Before opening micalusi real fish restaurant we opened Osteria del Pesce and then Assunta Madre. The secret of our success has always been obvious to everyone, right in front of the restaurant entrance: 30, 40 or even 50 crates of fresh fish from Terracina and other local auctions. Each crate is full of treasures that only we know how to find, thanks to 40 years of experience as fishermen, fishmongers and restaurateurs.
THE THRILL OF DISCOVERING
We grew up eating fish of extraordinary quality, cooked by my grandmother Assunta according to the traditional recipes of Terracina’s fishermen.
The recipes were simple. Because when the fish is good and the quality is high, you don’t need lengthy preparations or elaborate recipes to create great dishes.
